Ombudsman applauds Geoffrey Mosiria for pioneering cleaner, healthier Nairobi

The Commission on Administration of Justice (Office of the Ombudsman) has recognized Geoffrey Mosiria, the Chief Officer for Environment in Nairobi City County, for his outstanding contributions to public health and hygiene.

In a commendation letter, Commission Secretary Mercy Wambua praised Mosiria for his unwavering commitment to improving service delivery, noting that his innovative initiatives had significantly enhanced the quality of life for Nairobi residents.

She highlighted his leadership in environmental management, particularly in addressing critical health concerns and promoting a cleaner, healthier environment.

“Through his leadership, Mosiria has demonstrated a strong dedication to safeguarding the well-being of Nairobi residents,” Wambua stated.

“His proactive approach to environmental issues has made a lasting impact on public health.”

Recently, Mosiria took decisive action by shutting down a gravel processing plant in Ngara, which had been operating without an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) audit or the necessary licenses.

The plant was responsible for causing air pollution and discharging untreated effluent into the Nairobi River.

Local residents had reported respiratory problems, which were believed to have been caused by dust from the facility.

The Ombudsman’s office lauded Mosiria’s efforts to hold the company accountable, further encouraging him to continue championing sustainable environmental practices and raising public awareness.
