NUP Chooses Former FDC Member to carry Party flag in Omoro MP By-election
The National Unity Platform (NUP) has fronted former FDC member Samson Tolit Akecha as its flag-bearer in the upcoming Omoro County by-election.
The seat fell vacant last month following the death of MP and former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.
Tolit emerged the best from five candidates who were vetted on Monday. They are Alison Ramto Flavia, Kizza Oscar, Ochola Charles, Simon Toolit Akecha and Secondo Okoth Abok.
While presenting Tolit before the press at the NUP headquarters in Kamwokya on Tuesday, 26 April 2022, party president Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, said they believe he will effectively represent the party in the polls.
“As we go into Omoro, we know the challenges that await us but our role is to go there and tell people that the power belongs to them,” said Bobi Wine.
Tolit will join other parties’ candidates, including FDC’s Dick Denis Owani who was endorsed as the party flagbearer for the Omoro county parliamentary by-election on Sunday.
The candidate is National Resistance Movement’s Andrew Ojok Oulanyah, who was endorsed by the party last week.
The electoral commission has set May 26 as the date for the election in Omoro County, which was represented by the former Speaker of Parliament Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah who died on March 20 in the United States of America.
According to the Electoral Commission road map, the nomination of candidates will take place from May 12th to May 13 at Omoro District Council Hall. The candidate’s campaign will take place from May 16th- 24th, 2022.
The Electoral Commission has commenced the display of voter registers and issuance of voter location slips at polling stations in Omoro county. The exercise will end on May 4.
