NSRI urges beachgoers to prioritise safety on beaches
As the holiday season is in full swing, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is reminding the public to prioritise safety on beaches during the festive season.
In a statement, the NSRI has urged beachgoers to be aware of the dangers of the ocean, and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones.
Safety tips for the holiday season
The NSRI has released its top 10 safety tips for the holiday season, which include avoiding alcohol while swimming or boating, supervising children near water, and being aware of dangerous currents and lifeguarded beaches.
“We hope that everyone enjoys their time off and returns refreshed for the new year. However, we urge everyone to remember safety during the holidays, especially when in or near water,” NSRI spokesperson Andrew Ingram said.
Other safety tips include knowing emergency numbers, wearing life jackets while on the water, and learning survival swimming and bystander CPR.
The NSRI also encourages the public to download the RSA SafeTRX App, which monitors small craft journeys and alerts emergency contacts in case of an emergency.
Public urged to report any incidents at beaches
By following these safety tips, the NSRI hopes to minimise the number of accidents and incidents during the holiday season. “Let’s look out for each other and make this a safe and enjoyable holiday season for everyone,” Ingram said.
The NSRI is also reminding the public to be aware of their surroundings and to report any incidents or concerns to the authorities. “By working together, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday season for all,” he said.
The public has been encouraged to visit the NSRI’s safety tips on their website or social media pages.
