NRM Supporters Teargassed After Amuriat Seeks Refuge at Their Function

 

Police in Bubuulo town yesterday teargassed supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters for hiding FDC Presidential Candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat.

Amuriat was returning from Bulucheke Sub County in Bududa District where he had just held a campaign rally. However, at his last stop in Bubulo town, security which was commanded by a one Abraham Asiimwe stopped him.

Amuriat, who had earlier been blocked from campaigning at Lwakhakha border point and teargassed in Manafwa’s Wanjusi Sub County and Nangako Town Council in Bududa District, was angered defiantly pressed on with a road side meeting

Police in response fired teargas which sent the FDC candidate and his supporters scampering.

While being chased by Police, Amuriat chanced on an NRM rally organized Bubulo Women Leaders in Action, which he decided to join in order to evade the police.

He was received with excitement by the NRM women who started dancing to the ‘Tubonga Nawe’ tune and joyously waving the NRM Flags.

Police initially backed off but a few minutes later returned firing teargas into the rally, dispersing everyone.

The FDC Presidential Flag bearer is today Friday expected to traverse Mbale District before heading to Karamoja Region.
