NorthEast United forward Kwesi Appiah ready to ‘fly the Ghanaian flag’ high in India

Ghana forward Kwesi Appiah has revealed his desire of continuing the legacy of compatriot Asamoah Gyan in the Indian Super League.The 30-year-old joined Indian side NorthEast United in the summer transfer window after ending his stay with AFC Wimbledon.He becomes the second Ghanaian to join the Guwahati-based club in recent years, after legend Asamoah Gyan, whose stint with the club was cut short by COVID-19 and injuries.Despite a short spell in India, Gyan netted four times in eight games, and Kwesi Appiah is hopeful of doing much when the season starts on Saturday, November 21.”Its an amazing link to have, Asamoah Gyan is a Ghanaian icon and legend and I look forward to flying the flag for Ghana here in India this season,” he told The News Mill.Appiah reunites with former Ghana assistant coach Gerard Nus, who also joined the club as manager in the summer transfer window.’Its been very good to work with him again, we had an almost-perfect experience working together before as we narrowly missed out on winning a trophy in the final of the AFCON, 2015,” he said.’We understand each other well and have a great relationship so Im very much looking forward to the season ahead working with him.’NorthEast United open their campaign with a game against Mumbai FC.
