Nyandarua County Assembly is mourning the passing on of Nominated MCA Margaret Wanjiru Ndungu, a.k.a Mumbi wa Ruriri from Njabini-Kiburu Ward.
The deceased died after a short illness according to Speaker of the County Assembly James Ndegwa Wahome.
The Speaker, while making the announcement public said the MCA fell ill early Friday morning and was rushed to Njabini Dispensary for treatment.
However, she was referred to seek specialized treatment at Kijabe Mission Hospital but succumbed shortly before she arrived at the hospital.
The late Wanjiru was nominated by the Jubilee Party to represent the interests of Woman at the assembly, a role she performed well according to the speaker.
He said it was heartbreaking to lose such a dedicated leader who stood for the right and justice for vulnerable members of the society, sentiments that were also echoed by Governor Francis Kimemia in his condolence message saying the late MCA has been actively involved in community work, having special interest in the welfare of women and the less fortunate in the society, earning her the tag “nyina wa Rùrìrì.”
Her demise has robbed Nyandarua and our country of an astute leader whose diligent contribution to nation building will be missed by all”, read the statement.
Hon Margaret Wanjiru Ireri is a County Member from Njabini Kiburu Ward and the Vice Chairperson of Finance and Economic Development at Nyandarua County Assembly.
She is also a member of Transport, Energy and Public Works Committee; Trade, Cooperatives, Industrialization and Enterprise Development and Public Accounts & Investments Committee (PICPAC).
Before she joined the County Assembly, Hon. Wanjiru was the Chairperson of Maendeleo ya Wanawake in Kinangop Sub county.
She also worked previously with Social Reform Center as a mobilizer where she was leading in the campaign to have youth around Mount Kenya to register as voters.
She also supported cooperative movement and assisted registered groups in her home area to access financial support from government.
Hon. Wanjiru went to Munyaka Primary School and Munyaka Secondary school for her education.
She is a mother of two girls.
