‘No Red Cross staff killed by Boko Haram insurgents’

The Nigerian Red Cross yesterday refuted reports that some of its staff were beheaded by Boko Haram terrorists.

A viral video had given the impression that two Red Cross staff were beheaded by the insurgents at Ngoshe in Gwoza local government area of Borno State.

But the agency said yesterday none of such happened.

”I want to say this off the record that none of ICRC staff or staff of the Nigerian Red Cross was killed.
”Many times, the armed group use Red Cross to refer to other organizations, military etc. As the PRO, I want to confirm to you that neither our staff in the ICRC nor the staff of the Nigerian Red Cross was killed.

”As we don’t want to escalate this further, this is why we do not want to issue a statement. However, we want you to please update your headline.”
