Nicholas Wadada Crowned 256 Footballer of the Year

Uganda Cranes and Azam Football Club right back Nicholas Wadada has been crowned the winner for the second edition of 256 annual awards.

The 2019/2020 Vodacom Tanzania Premier League’s best defender was presented his maiden award on Wednesday afternoon at Kati Kati restaurant in Lugogo.

His success doesn’t come as a surprise after the defender scored one goal with Seven assists for the Ice cream makers who finished 3rd last season.

He beat stiff competition from Montreal Impact’s left back Mustafa Kizza and Ashdod Football Club’s forward Fahad Bayo who came second and third respectively.

“I’m really happy for this special recognition and I thank the organizers of this award because it’s really going to give me more courage and motivation to double my efforts and work hard such that I defend it next year. The competition was stiff but standing out as the best performer is really great,” Wadada told ChimpReports.

Farouk Miya, Steven Mukwala, Denis Onyango, Shafic Kagimu, Timothy Awany, Vianney Ssekajugo, Kizito Luwagga, Joel Mutakubwa, Derrick Ndahiro, Edrisa Lubega, Git Ali and Saidi Kyeyune were the other nominees that made the 15-man list.

The inaugural 256 Football player of the year award was clinched by former KCCA FC attacking midfielder (now at Paradou AC, Algeria) Allan Okello in 2019.

The award authentically recognises the best performing Ugandan football players both on the local scene and in the diaspora every year.
