Neuralink: FDA approves Elon Musk’s brain-chip firm for human trials

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given Elon Musk’s brain-implant company Neuralink the green light for its first-in-human clinical trial.

According to Reuters, this is a critical milestone for the company after it struggled to get a nod from FDA.

Via a statement on Twitter, Neuralink confirmed the news: “This is the result of incredible work by the Neuralink team in close collaboration with the FDA and represents an important first step that will one day allow our technology to help many people.”

Reuters have it that Musk envisions brain implants can cure a range of health conditions, including:

Obesity

Autism

Depression

Schizophrenia

Paralysis

Blindness

However, interestingly, the chips will reportedly be able to enable web browsing and telepathy. In 2022, Musk hogged headlines when he lauded the implant’s safety and made it known he would be willing to implant them in his children.

According to BBC, the chips have been tested in monkeys, and they are designed to interpret signals produced by the brain and relay them to devices via Bluetooth.

The firm has since promised more information on plans to sign up trial participants as it rolls out its pilot project.

Taking to its website in the wake of the approval of clinical trials, the company promises that “safety, accessibility and reliability” are all priorities during its engineering process.

In a deleted post, the company revealed that it was on the verge of completing its pilot project of robot wives. Taking to Twitter, Google Mechanic revealed that the supply of robot wives is expected for September 2023.
