Nedbank Cup: Mamelodi Sundowns face tricky semi-final draw

Mamelodi Sundowns will travel to the Cape to play Stellenbosch FC in the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup.

The Brazilians needed penalties to overcome Pretoria University after the quarter-final clash finished 1-1. If they found Tuks tough, Rulani Mokwena‘s side will face a much bigger threat in Stellies.

The team led by Steve Barker are unbeaten in 21 games across all competitions. Having already bagged in the Carling KnockOut Cup earlier this season, Stellenbosch are no doubt eyeing a double this campaign. Downs are favourites but given the fact that they are playing away, Masandawana might struggle against a much improved Stellies side.

The Nedbank Cup semi-final draw was conducted on Sunday afternoon after the quarter-final clash between Chippa United and TS Galaxy. The Chilli Boys won the contest 2-0 and will host Orlando Pirates in the semi-final.

The pick of the Nedbank Cup draw is Sundowns v Stellenbosch

Steve Barker’s team will be looking to gain inspiration from their previous year’s performance in the tournament, where they progressed to the quarter-finals by defeating Masandawana. During that time, Iqraam Rayners was in top form and scored some excellent goals. This year, Stellies has been doing well and has a good chance of beating Sundowns and winning the Nedbank Cup. They have secured 11 wins in the DStv Premiership so far and are in a good position to finish second.
