Nairobi Half Life star, Maina Olwenya, passes away

Maina was known to perfectly execute his film roles.

Kenyan film aficionados are in mourning after learning of the death of actor Maina Olwenya. The cause of Olwenya’s death remains unknown but it is reported that he died yesterday on Monday July 4th after collapsing at a Nairobi hospital.

Maina is most prolifically remembered for his role in the 2012 film, Nairobi Half Life, in which he played the role of ‘Oti’. He is also recalled for his roles in the movies, ‘Poacher’, ‘Fifth Estate’, and the TV series, ‘Mali’. Maina was in addition, a voice actor for various advertisements and promos over the years.

The internet has been awash with R.I.P messages since the announcement. Radio host Maina Kageni condoled by saying “We’ll miss you here at Radio Africa… among the very best voices in East Africa…. great actor, superb talent!!!! Recalling your outstanding role in the movie Nairobi Half-life… what a game-changer you were, big boss!!!!!!”. Actress Kate Kamau also sent in her goodbye message; “You’ve been on my mind since we started filming with Tosh Gitonga…reminiscing what great talent you are..Maina why? My heart is so freaking heavy. Go well bro, tutaonana baadae”.
