1 min read

Sheikh Waswa Omar Mohammed the Administrative Secretary for the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has urged the Muslim community to consider putting women in positions of leadership while electing leaders at the District Management Committees.

Sheikh Waswa made the call on Thursday while presiding over the swearing in of leaders to represent Kanungu District Council at the UMSC national level Mufti of Uganda Ramadan Mubaje.

This comes after UMSC separated Rukungiri District from Kanungu where the two have been sharing the leadership as one Administrative Area

The sworn in leaders include Hajj Abdallah Nzigira who previously headed Rukungiri and Kanungu(UMSC) as chairperson Kanungu District Council, Rukunda Abdullukhadili, General Secretary, Shaban Adam as Treasurer, Ismail Kahigi as Committee Member, Sheikh Hasan Bataringaya, Musiimenta Ramadan as Committee Members among others.

Sheikh Muhammad said at the event that there was a need for female representation on these district committees for effective administration.

While speaking at the same function, Kanungu District Khadhi Hajj Abdallah Mpabuka asked the chosen leaders to bring up every one and treat them equally while delivering services to them. He further asked the sworn in leaders to always work together as a team and not to divide the flock.
