Museveni to Address Nation; Suspected ADF Fighters Killed in Matugga

President Museveni is set to deliver a national address on Tuesday night.

State House said Museveni will speak about “issues of national address.”

However, ChimpReports understands Museveni will make remarks on government’s efforts to combat Ebola disease and the war on the terrorist Allied Democratic Forces in eastern Congo and Uganda.

Museveni this past weekend lifted the lockdown in the Ebola hotspot districts of Mubende and Kasanda districts, saying the government had not registered any new cases.

The UPDF last week killed 20 ADF fighters who had crossed from DRC into Ntoroko district, western Uganda.

15 ADF fighters surrendered to the UPDF while the rest fled back through the River Semliki.

This Monday morning, two suspected ADF rebels were killed by security forces in Matugga, Wakiso district.

Authorities said two guns, bombs and a magazine were recovered.

“ADF will eventually be wiped out, it is a matter of time,” said defence spokesperson Brig Felix Kulayigye during the weekend.

“ADF remnants who still wish to live must surrender, and amnesty provisions are still available to those who are ready to reform,” he added.

Kulayigye said the cells of saboteurs, criminal gangs and ADF sympathizers who were bent on causing insecurity through the use and acquisition of firearms from security forces have been largely neutralized.

“Indeed, the appetite to acquire guns has been lost as you can realise from the subsiding attacks. Soon such acts shall be history,” said Kulayigye.

Museveni is also expected to speak about road safety as the country enters a festive season.

Road accidents have been on the rise in Uganda in the past five years.

Serere County MP Patrick Okabe and his wife, Christine Okabe, died in a road accident in Budaka district this Monday morning.

Works Minister Gen Katumba Wamala recently said almost 10,000 people were killed in road crashes in 2021 and 2020.
