Museveni Promotes New Deputy CMI boss, Rugumayo

President Museveni has promoted Deputy Military Intelligence chief, Col Abdul Rugumayo to the rank of Brigadier General. 

The Ministry of Defence said Rugumayo, who replaced Brig CK Asiimwe on March 22, was promoted alongside 75 other officers.

“62 officers were promoted from Captain to Major and 13 from Lieutenant to Captain,” said the defense Ministry.

Rugumayo previously served as Deputy General Manager Luwero industries.

He took over the reins from Brigadier Asiimwe who was recently sent on training in a shake-up of the military intelligence services.

He served as intelligence chief for Uganda’s military operation against the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels in northern Uganda. 

At the time, Rugumayo was stationed at Gulu-based UPDF 4th Division.

During the war on LRA, Rugumayo, who was then a Captain, was injured in an ambush by the rebels of Joseph Kony at Palenga, 12 miles on the Gulu-Kampala highway.

He also served as Karamoja Overall Intelligence Coordinator during the disarmament exercise in Northeastern Uganda.
