Tuesday, February 15, 2022 – Vihiga Senator George Khaniri is the latest legislator to dump Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC for Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja Movement.
While making the switch, Khaniri stated that he had decided to part ways with Mudavadi, following his decision to work with Deputy President William Ruto.
The Vihiga senator stated that he will not work with the second in command and thus, will support Odinga’s presidential bid under Azimio.
“As Vihiga people, let’s rally behind Raila Odinga and support him. Once he gets it, we shall also be able to pick it from him.”
“As a person of Vihiga, my stand is that I am in Azimio la Umoja of Raila Odinga.
“I am supporting Raila’s presidential bid. Let Mudavadi go alone in Kenya Kwanza,” Khaniri stated.
The senator argued that he is opposed to Ruto’s presidency because he believes it is time for Kenya to be led by another community.
“President Moi served for 12 years as vice president and 24 years as head of state, Deputy President William Ruto has served two terms in office. What of other communities?” he posed.
Senator Khaniri now adds to a long list of politicians that have deserted ANC for Azimio La Umoja.
Other leaders who made a similar switch in the past few weeks include MPs; Ayub Savula (Lugari), Godfrey Osotsi (nominated), Oscar Nabulindo (Matungu), Titus Khamala (Lurambi) and Christopher Aseka (Khwisero) among others.
Khaniri is currently one of the longest-serving legislators in the country and has been at the National Assembly and Senate for over 20 years.
