MOH introduces new directive for travellers within Kenya

The Ministry of Health has given out a new set of measures regarding travellers coming or going out of the country.

This move comes in the midst of the second wave of the Covid-19 virus, which has seen Kenya record the highest number ever in the last 50 days.

“Everyone coming or going out of the country must possess a nucleic acid test (PCR) coronavirus negative certificate, for a test done at least 96 hours before their departure,” read the order in part.

Covid-19 certificates

At the same time, passengers whose certificate will expire while still travelling will leave their passports with the airport health authorities. Afterwards, they will go for another test at a recognized health facility at their cost.

The new measures will be effected without any further delay as per the Ministry of Health’s directive.

Additionally, before travelling the Ministry has asked everyone to fill their health status in the Ministry’s health portal online.

Visitors arriving in Nairobi will exit the plane in a group of 30 to avoid overcrowding at the area of screening.

Moreover, MOH has advised all passengers arriving in the country or while inside the aeroplanes to observe all Covid-19 protocols.

Kenya has had a tough time fighting the novel coronavirus since the beginning of October. Almost 285 people have lost their lives mean ten deaths daily.

At the beginning of October, Kenya recorded 185 infections, but as days went by, the numbers continued skyrocketing, with almost 1,313 by the end of last month.

Following the rise in the number of infections and deaths, President Uhuru Kenyatta convened an urgent meeting with the National Emergency Response Committee (NERC).
