Leaders in Mitooma district have halted the commissioning of Mayanga Seed Secondary School in Mayanga Sub County that was due to take place on Monday 14th March 2022.
The first lady and Minister of Education and Sports , Janet Kataaha Museveni, was expected to be the guest of honor at the function.
A letter signed by the district chairperson addressed to the Chief Administrative Officer, informed the Minister that the district authorities are not ready to commission the School due to irregularities that need to be worked on before commissioning.
Benon Karyaija aka Boneza, the Mitooma district chairperson says that they got Ugx 2.3Bn from the government in 2019 meant to construct class room blocks, staff quarters, Headmaster’s office, ICT laboratory and renovating the playground, but that unfortunately the contractor Khalisa Investments ltd failed to finish the play ground, fencing of the school as well as completion of the ICT lab.
Karyeija further noted that there was no clear accountability and bills of quantity on how funds were used.
Addah Nasiima the Mitooma district Resident District Commissioner noted that they are engaging the contractor and all the concerned people so that the challenges can be addressed so that the school is soon commissioned.
