In a statement, Meta emphasized its commitment to fighting online fraud and sextortion scams targeting young users. The crackdown follows a similar action in July, where 7,200 related Facebook assets were shut down. The “Yahoo Boys” network, known for engaging in organized scams, is banned under Meta’s Dangerous Organizations and Individuals policy. Meta reassured that it swiftly removes any accounts found engaging in such criminal behavior.

In addition to targeting scam groups, Meta launched a new Instagram campaign aimed at raising awareness about sextortion, a crime where scammers threaten to reveal intimate images of teens and young adults unless paid. The company is introducing new safety features to disrupt these scams and protect its users, especially minors.

Meta has also collaborated with Larry Magid of ConnectSafely to develop educational resources for parents, helping them guide their children in navigating online threats. These actions highlight Meta’s ongoing dedication to securing its platforms and supporting teens and families against online crime.
