Mawa, Anayo Declared Fortebet Real Stars of December

The final edition of the 2020 Real Stars Sports monthly awards has successfully climaxed on Tuesday 29th December at Copper Chimney Restaurant in Kampala.

Three outstanding sports personalities in Uganda Cubs and KCCA Soccer Academy forward Oscar Mawa, Soroti Challenge Cricket Club’s Christine Anayo, and Joseph Kasozi from Kilembe Mines Golf club were recognized at the event.

Mawa won the football category after scoring six goals in the just concluded CECAFA U-17 Championship to help Uganda Cubs lift the trophy and qualify for the AFCON tournament due next year in Morocco.

The Gombe High School student beat competition from KCCA FC striker Brian Aheebwa and Mawogola Saaza team goalkeeper Michael Lutaaya to the gong.

In the Cricket category, Soroti Challenge Cricket Club’s Christine Anayo saw off competition from Aziz Damani’s duo of Racheal Ntono and Immaculate Nakisuuyi to win the award.

She scored 18.4 Points and 8 wickets in Women Cricket Elite League at Lugogo in Kampala. She also played for Soroti Challenge Cricket Club and featured for Aziz Damani Franchise in series of elite league.

In Golf, Joseph Kasozi clinched the gong having played second fiddle to Kenyan John Lejirma who won the 79th Uganda Amateur Golf Open Championship at the par 72 Uganda Golf Course in Kitante.

The Kilembe Mines Golf Club player beat competition from Christopher Baguma (Entebbe Golf Club) and Michael Alunga (Uganda Golf Club – Kampala).

He carried the day one bragging rights as the overnight leader with a level par score (72 gross) while Entebbe Golf Club’s Baguma was five strokes from the overall winner with Alunga scoring 7 strokes off the pace.

The crowning ceremony was graced by Uganda’s High Commissioner to Canada Hon. Joy Ruth Acheng and Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards Executive Director Isaac Mukasa.
