Matric dance season: Five must-know hacks to slay the night

1 min read

Grade 12 learners are reaching the end of their schooling career as the Matric final exams end on 7 December.

After the Matric exams comes either a Matric dance or a farewell party. Here are five must-know hacks to slay the night.

1. ORDER YOUR DRESS ONLINE

You could opt for buying a dress online instead of in store to save money. Online stores such as FashionNova and Shein offer stunning dresses for a fraction of the price.

Ordering online from international retailers comes with a few clauses such as delivery costs and customs. To get ahead of the delivery costs, you can take advantage of the free delivery options. Most online retailers offer free delivery if you order over a certain amount.

You could order with a few of your friends also attending the Matric dance to reach the said amount so you don’t have to pay for delivery. Ordering with friends also means you can split the costs of customs.

2. EASY SMOKEY EYE

If you’re doing your own makeup, TikTok has thousands of hacks. There is a viral eyeshadow hack that is both simple and sophisticated — the classic smokey eye.

You need a basic neutral palette and a flat eyeshadow brush. You can pick four to five colours. Start with the darkest to the lightest shade and draw a line from top to bottom on your eyelid. You then blend the colours, wing your eyeliner and you’re good to go. This is the perfect Matric dance makeup look.

3. CREATE SIMPLE CURLS

Another way to save money is to do your own hair. There have been a few content creators who shared tips on creating different kinds of curls with a hair iron on Instagram. Wavy hair is in this season and perfect for a Matric dance, so you could choose from an S wave, half turn or slight turn to create the best suited hairstyle for you.

4. NAILS OPTIONS

The two most popular types of nails are acrylic and gel which a nail technician usually charges around R200 upwards for. If you’re looking for a quick substitute, press-on nails are simple to fit on and look just as realistic. You can get these at most retail stores.

There are also polygel nails which can be done at home with a simple kit. The kits retail for around R300 but can be used for several nail sets, not just one.

5. PHOTOS AT THE MATRIC DANCE

Leaving high school with good memories is a must! The best way to do this is take lots of pictures before or at your Matric dance. You do not necessarily need a photographer because smartphones have so many features to choose from.
