Marsabit Insecurity: Gov’t declares dusk to dawn curfew for 30 days


The government has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew for the next 30 days in Marsabit in an effort to end ongoing banditry attacks in the region.

Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i also declared Kom Sub-location within Kom Division in Isiolo County a disturbed area for the next 30 days to allow security personnel to deal with the suspected bandits and any other threat in the area.

“We are moving in security resources to clean up the area. We must get all illegal firearms from that place. We will stay there until the job is done,” he stated

“Over the years I cannot recount the number of times our police officers have disrupted planned terror activities that is being channeled through that route. Therefore any movement in that area a must be cleared by the security sector,” he added

The CS further called upon leaders in the region to cooperate with the government in ensuring security is restored in the affected areas.

“I ask all leaders of Marsabit to cooperate with us in this operation. We are grateful to the religious leaders in Marsabit for reaching out to the victims and to the government as well,” he said

Matiang’i assured of consistent supply of relief food and water in Isiolo and Marsabit during the curfew period.
