The Manchester United board are reportedly finally accelerating the process to sack manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Solskjaer is thought to finally be on the brink of being sacked from his job following Manchester United’s shocked 4-1 away loss to Watford on Saturday afternoon UK time.
Manchester United suffered a new low
In a shocking display, Manchester United reached a new low, shipping in four goals to a struggling Watford side at Vicarage road, where they have a checkered recent history. It had already threatened to be a very long evening for the Red Devils as they conceded an early penalty. Spanish international David de Gea was on hand to give Solskjaer an early reprieved, saving both the initial and the retaken penalty by Senegalese international Ismail Sarr.
However, Manchester United and Solskjaer would soon run out of luck as Watford would finally break the deadlock through a Red Devil academy product, Joshua King, who scored his fifth goal against the club. Sarr would soon make amends for his penalty miss and ensured that the home side would go into the break with a two goal lead.
Maguire sent off in loss to Watford
Although Manchester United would soon pull one back, through half time substitute Donny van de Beek, they would go on to lose their captain Harry Maguire, who himself is going through a torrid time-through a red card. Watford would then score a further two goals to further mount the the pressure on Solskjaer job with a 4-1 home victory.
Although Solskjaer had appeared bullish about his prospects of staying on as Manchester United manager in his post match interview, claiming he will always believe in his ability to turn things around, it seems that the club’s board may have other idea’s.
Club board to discuss Solskjaer’s sacking
According to The Sunday Times UK the Manchester United board have scheduled an emergency virtual meeting which would’ve commenced at 7pm UK time, with top of that agenda being Solskjaer’s pay off package. That would then obviously suggested that the board has agreed that sacking the Norwegian club legend is the right call.
Replacement already identified
Furthermore, the publication goes on to state that the Manchester United board have even gone as far as identifying their preferred replacement for Solskjaer. It is believed that the board have asked those in charge of the football decisions at the club,to step up their efforts to further persuade Frenchmen and former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane to take over the reins.
Is this finally the end of the road for Solskjaer at Manchester United?
