Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder George Maluleka is celebrating his 33rd birthday today, 7 January 2022.
And his birthday comes at a time when he faces a bleak future at Sundowns, perhaps for the first time in his career.
Maluleka has never found himself in this situation since turning professional, and this could be the right moment for him to do self-introspection.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR MALULEKA?
What the country knows at this stage is that Sundowns are discussing Maluleka’s future behind the scenes.
The idea is that Maluleka could be sent out on loan for the remainder of the season as his chances of featuring regularly are non-existent.
And that’s because Sundowns have been doing well without his contribution on the pitch with the likes of Rivaldo Coetzee and Andile Jali among others players.
Maluleka has featured only twice this season for Sundowns, and that shows just how competitive the squad is.
Overall, Maluleka has only made 16 appearances for Sundowns since his arrival from Kaizer Chiefs in 2019.
And that is certainly not good enough for a player of Maluleka’s calibre who is a talented and an experienced campainger.
There were a lot of expectations when Maluleka left Amakhosi for Sundowns but things haven’t been as rosey for his football career.
As he celebrates his 33rd birthday, the one wish Maluleka certainly has is to return onto the pitch as soon as possible but that may not be at Sundowns.
