GENEVA (Reuters) – New lockdowns in Europe are preventable, including through the almost universal use of a mask, said the regional director of WHO (World Health Organization) for Europe, Hans Kluge.
“Lockdowns are preventable, I maintain my position that lockdowns are a measure of last resort. If wearing a mask reaches 95%, lockdowns will not be necessary,” Kluge told a news conference.
Primary schools must be kept open, he said, adding that children and adolescents are not causing the new spread to spread. coronavirus, known as SARS-CoV-2, and closing schools “is not effective”.
