Defending Champions Kamara KC (R) thrashed Gedeh KC (L) in the opener
The Defending Champions of the Liberia Kickball Federation (LKF) National Second Division Playoff made huge statement of retaining the title with a massive 8-2 defeat of Gedeh Kickball of Grand Gedeh County.
The LKF League-2 playoff is an annual tournament intended to determine the overall second division champions of the country and also for the promotion of teams to the first league. The second edition of the tournament is being played in Kakata, Margibi County with 16 clubs representing five sub committees, namely; SKD, Bushrod Island, Margibi, Grand Bassa and Grand Gedeh.
Accordingly, defending champion Kamara opened her title account with a convincing 8-2 win over long-distance travelers Gedeh KC at the jammed parked Broker Washinton Institute (BWI) Sports Pitch on Saturday, September 24, 2022.
In a game played at the flooded BWI pitch under the wet Saturday’s weather, Kamara took a 1-0 home lead in the first inning of the match, but the Zwedru based club soon leveled things in the second inning of play.
And playing with inning advantage, Kamara increased the score line in the third and fourth innings, while the tournament’s new comers managed a consolation home in the fourth.
In the second match of the day, Kakata based Ayounda bowed to a shocking 2-1 home defeat to debutants Supreme Girls of the Bushrod Island Sub Committee.
Ayounda, who had earlier taken the lead in the second inning and having inning advantage at her disposal, struggled to increase the tally despite numerous opportunities that befell her way in a mouthwatering encounter.
With strings of missed chances by both teams, Supreme left it late in the fourth and fifth innings to register two homes and defended the disadvantaged inning to send the game to bed before the watchful eyes of frowning home fans of Ayounda at Do-Village Pitch, also in Kakata.
Still at the Do-Village, Margibi County Champions Destiny Girls proved supremacy over Grand Bassa County champions, Bassa-Ayounda in a one-sided 5-0 home win, while Barnersville Super Stars (BSS) survived the scares of Destiny Sisters of Bong County with a 1-0 victory.
