Liberia: Snowe Takes Massive Early Lead in Bomi
TUBMANBURG – Bomi County district # one Representative Edwin Melvin Snowe has taken a massive early lead in the just ended senatorial election in the county.
The senatorial election took place across Liberia on Tuesday, December 8.
Five candidates including incumbent Senator Sando Dazoe Johnson of the opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), former House Speaker Alex Tyler of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Representative Edwin Melvin Snowe, Zoebon Norman, and Adama Soko Dorley contested the senatorial seat in Bomi.
Tallied preliminary results finalized and posted at polling places in Tubmanburg by poll workers show that Representative Snowe obtained a total of 4138 or 72.22% of the total valid votes cast, over his closest rival Mr. Tyler with 1161 equivalent to 20.26%.
The provisional results were collected from the 11 precincts in Tubmanburg, capital city of Bomi County following the finalization of the tallying process.
The 11 polling precincts visited include: Gbalasuah Community Hall (Code # 03072), Bomi Administrative Building (Code #: 03074), Court House Moses Vincent Compound (Code #: 03075), and the Vai Town Cinema precinct (Code # 03076), among others.
Others are: Nyeila English and Arabic School (Code #:03069), and the C. H. Dewey High School (Code #: 03071), among others.
There were 35 polling places at the 11 polling precincts in Tubmanburg.
Early Wednesday morning, scores of residents including motorcyclists, women and children took to the streets to celebrate the early lead of Representative Snowe after the voting and tallying processes.
They chanted slogans and rendered prayers for Representative Snowe.
“Thank you, thank you Snowe thank you; In the race, Snowe in the race, no equal; Who made it possible, papa oo, who made it possible, papa oo”, they sang jubilantly across the streets in Tubmanburg.
Speaking on behalf of the citizens at the residence of Representative Snowe in Weakama, Senjeh District, Madam Rita Bebeh urged Representative Snowe to extend his developmental initiatives to other parts of the country to ensure that Bomi comes on par with other counties in Liberia.
She noted that since 2017, the Bomi County lawmaker has ably represented his constituents, and as such, he must extend similar representation to citizens of the county when he is officially declared the winner of the senatorial seat by the National Elections Commission (NEC).
“We are here this morning because we are grateful from the results we heard coming your way since last night to this morning. We understand and we have the faith that the National Elections Commission will announce you the winner because, God has made it possible and we have elected our rightful Senator”.
“The battle we started, God has made us to win the battle. You are going to speak and fight for us”.
For his part, Representative Snowe commended the citizens for the peaceful manner and form in which they conducted themselves during the voting process.
Meanwhile, the National Elections Commission (NEC), through its magisterial office in the county, has commenced the reconciliation of the tallying of ballots cast during the voting process in Bomi County.
Already, two candidates of the just ended senatorial election have conceded to defeat and congratulated Representative Snowe for his “victory”.
The candidates include Zoebon Norman and Adama Soko Dorley.
