Liberia: President Boakai Expresses Gratitude to Liberians for Their Kindness, Calls for Unity on Thanksgiving Day
Monrovia—President Joseph Nyuma Boakai delivered a heartfelt message on the 2024 National Thanksgiving Day, urging Liberians to unite and express love for their country.

During the ceremony held at the Harvest Intercontinental Cathedral in Congo Town, Boakai emphasized that Liberia’s greatest strength lies not in its resources, but in its people.
Established by legislation in 1883, Thanksgiving Day is observed on the first Thursday of November each year. In his remarks, President Boakai reiterated that Liberia is a nation guided by a reverence for God, underlining the importance of honoring the nation’s foundational principles of worship and respect for the divine.
“Today is a recommitment to show love for our country,” Boakai stated, adding, “The greatest strength I believe this country has is the Liberian people. They have demonstrated to the world that they are great, loving individuals who stand out in our sub-region.”
Highlighting Liberia’s unique role in the region, President Boakai remarked that it remains open and welcoming to all.
He asserted that the nation’s resilience and dignity are restoring its honor, encouraging citizens to take pride in their identity and heritage.
“We have shown resilience, we have shown courage, and at this time, we are here to raise, to shine, and be a blessing,” he declared, expressing confidence in Liberia’s potential for greatness.
The Proclamation for Thanksgiving Day calls upon citizens, residents, religious leaders, and organizations to gather in their places of worship to express gratitude to God for continuing unity and protection over the nation.
According to a release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Proclamation aligns with the 1883 Act of the National Legislature that established Thanksgiving Day. It emphasizes the significance of dedicating a day for national gratitude, acknowledging God’s grace, mercy, and ongoing preservation of life amidst challenges over the years.
