LIBERIA: Lofa Police Charges Man, 20, With Attempted Murder, Assault

VOINJAMA, (LINA) – A man believed to be in his 20s has been arrested and charged by the Lofa County detachment of the Liberia National Police (LNP) for attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Suspect Marwolo Konguor was arrested on Friday, April 1, 2022 for allegedly shooting a 24 year-old man identified as Flomo Kpadeh with a single barrel shotgun while on a hunting expedition in the forest of Lutisu Town before fleeing the scene.

Suspect Konguor’s arrest followed massive search by citizens and residents of Lutisu Town after he escaped the scene.

According to police sources, after suspect Konguor committed the act on Thursday, March 31, he fled the scene, leaving the 24 year-old victim unconscious without informing anyone in the area.

The victim, who did not die, managed to walk to town and raise alarm about the incident.

Following that, residents immediately launched a massive search for suspect Konguor, and apprehended him on the outskirts of the town on April 1.

He was then turned over to the Liberia National police detachment on Saturday, April 2.

The police detained him at its headquarters in Voinjama City, where during preliminary investigation he admitted committing the act.

He explained that while on a hunting expedition, he mistook Flomo Kpadeh for a bush animal and discharged his single barrel gun and shot him.

Suspect Konguor has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and illegal possession of firearm, and has been remanded at the Voinjama Central Prison.

He is expected to be forwarded to court for prosecution.

Meanwhile, victim Flomo Kpaded was taken to the Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital in Voinjama City, but due to the severity of the wounds he sustained, Kpadeh has been transferred to Macanta Town in the Republic of Guinea for advanced medical treatment.
