Liberia: LIBSWU Denounces Circulating Fake Press Release, Reaffirms Commitment to Dialogue with LBS Management
Monrovia – The leadership of the Liberia Broadcasting System Workers Union (LIBSWU) has disassociated itself from a press release circulating on social media and various chat rooms, purportedly outlining grievances against the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) management.
In an official statement issued on November 17, 2024, LIBSWU Secretary General Kolubah B.K. Zayzay and President Joseph O. Sayon categorically debunked the release, stating that it did not originate from the union’s leadership or any authorized member.
The union emphasized that while it recognizes issues affecting workers’ welfare, health, and occupational safety at LBS, its leadership has not made any decision to issue a public statement regarding these matters.
“LIBSWU’s leadership remains committed to engaging senior management in addressing workers’ concerns. We will only resort to public declarations if all dialogue avenues with management fail,” the statement read.
LIBSWU clarified that any official communication from the union is issued on its official letterhead, following a collective agreement by the workforce during a general meeting in adherence to its constitution. The union also highlighted discrepancies in the fake release, including the use of an incorrect name—Liberia Broadcasting System Workers’ Union instead of the correct Liberia Broadcasting System Workers Union (LIBSWU)—and an unauthorized signature format.
“The union will not issue any press release or document without adhering to the proper protocols outlined in our constitution. The purported release is not only unauthorized but also does not reflect the union’s structure or processes,” the statement added.
LIBSWU assured workers and the public that its leadership remains actively engaged in discussions with LBS management to address critical and pressing issues affecting employees and improve their working conditions.
The union called on the public to disregard the fake release and urged workers to remain patient as the leadership continues to work towards resolving their concerns.
