LIBERIA: Justice Wolokollie Places Hold On Judge Carey’s Contempt Actions Against GT Bank

The Supreme Court of Liberia justices in Chamber Jamesetta Howard Wolokollie has issue a writ of prohibition on the case involving Business Man George Kailondo and GT Bank Liberia limited.
It can be recalled Criminal Court C judge T Ciapha Carey in Wednesday February 23, issued a Simmons contempt against the managing Director of GT Bank Liberia, the deputies, operations manager, executive Director and Comptroller to appear before the court on today’s Friday February 25, 2022.
Justice Wolokollie in her communication to the circuit court judge said,* by directive of her honor Jamesetta Howard Wolokollie associates presiding in chamber,you are hereby cited to a conference with her honor on Monday February 28, 2022 at the hour of 12.00 noon .
The communication issue by the clerk of court further said you are ordered to stay the enforcement of your ruling ordering the corporate officers of the Guaranty Trust Bank to be present at the hearing of the case out of the petition grows ,pending the outcome of the conference.
But during Wednesday hearing Judge Carey said he has notices the continuous absence of the defendants in the ongoing theft case them and business man George Kailondo.
He added that the case at hand is a criminal trial, noting that it’s incumbent on the defendants as provided by statute to be present at every stage of the proceedings.
The criminal court C, judge maintain that from the start of the case to present, the GT Bank Liberia limited bosses have failed and neglected to be present in court at every time the case is called.
He started that the court will no longer temper justice with mercy,as he defendants are abusing the right that the court has been lenient .
Meanwhile Judge Carey, has order the sheriff to served the defendants to appear on Friday and show cause if any, while they should not be held in contempt of court.
In another development the assigned judge T Ciapha Carey has dismissed and denied the motion filed by lawyers representing GT Bank to dismiss the indictment.
