On Saturday, June 15, Bettomax Liberia, a sports betting company, and Orange First Division League champions Watanga FC jointly presented 50 bags of 25kg rice and 50 sacks of bottled water to JFK Hospital. This donation aimed to aid those in need and patients admitted to the hospital.

According to Darren Glover, Chief Executive Officer of Bettomax Liberia, the donation is a part of their corporate social responsibility and a way to give back to society. Glover stated that following their sponsorship agreement with Watanga FC, they committed to community support as a key part of their partnership, encouraging the football club to select a charity for donations.

“We will be doing this every month at various places throughout Liberia as our way of thanking the people of Liberia. It’s a pleasure to help in any small way,” Glover said.

Fallah Braima, Operations Manager of Bettomax Liberia, emphasized their commitment to not only profiting from Liberia but also giving back to the country through their corporate social responsibility efforts. He explained that this monthly initiative would include projects with schools and communities, with the JFK donation valued at over one thousand United States dollars.

Braima also mentioned their plans for fair and responsible gaming and community engagement outreach, noting that they are planning smaller-scale projects throughout Liberia. “We might be meeting with cities and towns to carry out projects that will benefit the locals, and we believe that the donation to JFK Medical Center is the beginning of bigger things to come,” he said.

Braima added that since partnering with Watanga FC, the relationship has been beneficial, and they hope to extend similar partnerships with other clubs and sporting federations in the country.

Watanga FC President K. Jlateh Sayor explained their choice of JFK Medical Center due to the hospital’s crucial role in patient care. “We recognize your importance as the only government referral hospital in Montserrado. Knowing the financial difficulties, you face, we selected JFK Hospital as the beneficiary of this gesture on behalf of Bettomax and us,” he said.

Sayor expressed hope that the donation would be used for its intended purpose, crediting Bettomax as the prime sponsor making this contribution possible.

Dr. Ian Wachekwa, receiving the items on behalf of the JFK Medical Center administration, thanked Bettomax and Watanga for their support. He noted that the donation would significantly help the hospital, which faces financial challenges like many other institutions. “This donation allows us to redirect funds we would have spent on rice and water towards medical supplies like Paracetamol,” Dr. Wachekwa said.

He emphasized that the donation reflects the community’s care for the hospital and called on others to follow Bettomax and Watanga’s example. The donation ceremony was attended by players, officials, fans, and brand ambassadors of the club, as well as Bettomax Liberia officials.

Watanga FC, the current Liberia Football Association national league champions, will represent the country in the upcoming Confederation of African Football Champions League.
