Letlhaku: How Sundowns starlet GOT AWAY from Kaizer Chiefs
Mamelodi Sundowns starlet Kutlwano Letlhaku is trending after his superb performance against Polokwane City.
Letlhaku was named man of the match after netting twice to help Sundowns register a 2-0 win over Polokwane City.
In so doing, the left-footed attacker became the youngest ever player to score a league brace for Sundowns in the PSL era.
He achieved that aged 18 years and 227 days – and overall, Letlhaku has three goals to his name so far this season.
Now, signed from the School of Excellence in July 2023, there is an interesting story behind his move to the Brazilians.
LETLHAKU SNUBBED KAIZER CHIEFS FOR SUNDOWNS
Letlhaku was just 17 when Sundowns signed him from the School of Excellence, but it has emerged that he was actually heading to Kaizer Chiefs.
Chiefs had already prepared paperwork and agreed with School of Excellence about his move to Naturena.
However, the youngster’s heart was with Sundowns, and after all the efforts by Amakhosi, he decided to go to Chloorkop.
At the time, Molefi Ntseki was Chiefs’ Head of Technical and Youth Development; the position he had occupied since 2021.
Nonetheless, his influential position, even when everything looked pretty clear that Letlhaku was talented, didn’t help Chiefs.
Now, barely one-and-a-half year later, everyone is showering Letlhaku with praise as the country has started recognising his talent.
According to one of the former School of Excellence coaches, Mojalefa Mathebula, taking Letlhaku to Chiefs was an attempt to try and spread the young players among the big PSL.
However, he admitted on X (formerly Twitter) that only Letlhaku’s agency would have a better explanation as to what happened to the proposed Chiefs deal.
