Al Ahly are currently preparing to meet Brazilian side Palmeiras in the semi-final of the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup, having claimed an important 1-0 win over Monterrey thanks to a 53rd minute winner from Mohamed Hany in what was effectively a quarter-final match.

The Egyptian giants were without a host of first-choice players due to their participation with the Egyptian national side ahead of last Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against Senegal in Cameroon, while Tau was one of a few players unavailable due to injury.

However, in some good news for the club, Tau has begun to take some part in training as he enters the next stage of his injury rehabilitation.

“Percy Tau, Al Ahly’s football first team attacking player, started a new phase in his recovery program on Monday at Zayed Cricket Stadium,” a club statement read.

“Tau ran around the pitch and performed several fitness exercises on the sidelines of the team’s training sessions.”

After watching from the stands on Saturday, Tau spoke to iDiski Times journalist Lorenz Kohler about the result against Monterrey and his “disappointing” absence.

“It feels great. I think the guys deserved it after the hard work they put in,” he said. “With all the circumstances I think the guys put in a good game and now it’s just to build up from this.

“We must take it one game at a time, trying to put your best all the time. If we put on performances like this we can go far in the tournament.”

“It’s disappointing to be injured but it’s part of the game. Now I just have to focus on my recovery and getting back to my best,” he added.

“I’ll keep supporting my team meanwhile, it’s just unfortunate that I’m not able to play.”

TAU IS UNLIKELY TO BE AVAILABLE FOR THE SEMI-FINALS

Al Ahly will now face Brazilian side Palmeiras in the semi-finals, with Tau also revealing what Mosimane told his depleted squad ahead of the Monterrey match.

“He said all the players that are here deserve to be here. They represent Al Ahly. We miss those that are not here, but the ones here are just as capable of doing the job.

“I think you’ve seen it, 1-0 and we’re through.”
