Langata-Kibera-Ngong Road missing link road to be complete by June

Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced that Langata -Ngong Road link through Kibra is on course and the structures are almost complete with official opening set for three months time in June.

According to Director General Silas Kinoti,girder beams are already in place with the design set to create a seamless connection with the Kibera link road traversing the slum to Lang’ata from Ngong road.

“Plans are at an advanced stage in terms of completion of the road.We have done several kilometres of the dualling and that section, which is largely Kibra over railway bridge.From Langata to Ngong road through Kibra will take 3-4 minutes and we are expecting to open it in the next few months. Hopefully President Uhuru Kenyatta who is committed towards improvement of infrastructure in the country will attend” noted Kinoti

The ongoing works on the 2km Kibra-Southern Bypass Interchange road within Nairobi County is being constructed by the government to bitumen-dual carriageway standards.

Kinoti said the works of the road which commenced in September, 2020 is progressing well and includes the construction of a dual carriageway, service roads, underpasses, overpasses, bus bays, bridges and pedestrian bridges and footpaths.

He further reiterated his commitment to help the ruling administration achieve big four agenda through rolling programs geared towards the realization of improved infrastructure in the area, hence changing the lives of the dwellers.

“We have intensified infrastructural development in major towns in a bid to help President transform lives of Kenyans.Urban roads are key enablers of economic growth and have productive interlinkages with other socio-economic activities such as industrial, services, agricultural, commercial, social institutions and households” he further added.

Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) a state
corporation established under the Kenya Roads Act, 2007 has the mandate to Manage, Develop, Rehabilitate and maintain all Urban National Trunk Roads within the urban areas.

Since its inception, KURA is credited with execution its vision in delivering a safe and efficient urban road transport infrastructure.

The achievements include; construction of 172km of new roads, rehabilitation of 167.7km, provision of 36 bridges and interchanges constructed, 288.8km of pedestrian walkways constructed, 431.8km put under periodic maintenance and 9,797km of roads under routine maintenance.
