Kurt OkrakuThe president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has urged the Black Satellites to seize the opportunity and qualify for the U20 World Cup following their second-place finish at the 2024 WAFU B U20 Championship.Despite losing 2-1 to Nigeria in the final last month, Ghana had already qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations by reaching the final. The U20 AFCON will serve as the qualifying tournament for next years World Cup, which will be hosted in Chile.Speaking to the Black Satellites after the final, Okraku said, We are runners-up, but we have shown quality in this tournament. Coach and the entire technical team, this is the first phase of our journey. The second phase is the AFCON.We’ve seen teams win the WAFU and not win the AFCON. We’ve seen teams win the WAFU and win the AFCON.We’ve seen teams play as runners-up at the WAFU and still win the AFCON. We’ve seen teams place second at the WAFU and still win the AFCON.The GFA President also emphasized that the team will be well-prepared for the tournament, so they can make the country proud. So, we are finished with the first phase. The second phase is for all of us, as a family, to think about how we’re going to prepare this team. How we’re going to be competitive, and how we will participate in the AFCON and make it to the World Cup.I think that if we stay together, if we play for each other, if we put up a competitive team, I know that Ghana will be truly represented at the AFCON, and we will make it.The date for the 2025 U20 AFCON has yet to be announced, but the Black Satellites are set to continue their preparations for the tournament.
