Kitui: State steps up efforts to end border insecurity

In a bid to find a lasting solution to the perennial cases of insecurity along the border between Kitui and Tana River counties, the National Government has been conducting high level meeting in the recent past. 

On Thursday, a security meeting bringing together three County Commissioners; Kipchumba Rutto of Kitui, David Koskei of Tana River and Mohamed Mwabudzo of Garissa, was held at Mwingi town to discuss various possible solution to the pasture related insecurity.

Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties had also send representation in the meeting organized by the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA)

Speaking after the meeting, the three County Commissioners committed to do their best in ensuring peacefully coexistence of communities along their borders, urging residents to always seek amicable dispute resolution mechanisms instead of using force.

Kitui County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto said that the national government was committed in restoring peace along the border areas, saying that the meeting at Mwingi followed another meeting bringing together all leaders from the affected counties in Nairobi.

His Garissa counterpart Mohamed Mwabudzo urged communities along the border areas to always settle disputes in advance before they escalate, so as to avoid any loss of life.

Tana River County Commissioner on his side urged the communities to treat one another as brother and sisters loving under one nation and governed by the same constitution, despite the language barriers which may exist between them.

The peace committees from the affected areas were also not lest out in giving views on the possible solutions to the perennial conflicts.
