Kaizer Chiefs target former Sundowns coach and PSL winner

Kaizer Chiefs will have a new coach next season after the likes of Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson. The name could be the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Gamondi.

“It’s something we communicated from the onset — Cavin has stepped in on an interim basis and we’re [committed] to having a different technical structure next season,” Motaung Jr said via TimesLIVE.

“I know we are focused on the next game and the next seven games and we have everything to play for. But yes, definitely the plans have long been in motion — we’ll be having a different technical structure next season,” the former Kaizer Chiefs striker added.

KAIZER CHIEFS TO HIRE MIGUEL GAMONDI AS THE NEXT COACH?

According to FARPost, Amakhosi have shortlisted the 57-year-old Argentine. The name Gamondi is not new to South Africa. He was the co-coach with Neil Tovey as Sundowns won the 2006/07 Premier Soccer League title. Gamondi later had a spell with Platinum Stars before moving to Algeria and Morocco. The Kaizer Chiefs target currently works for Tanzania’s giants Young Africans, where he is leading the log with seven points, one game in hand and eight games to go.

RUI VITORIA FOR AMAKHOSI?

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly also targeting another top coach from Portugal. Reports say former Benfica and Egypt coach Rui Vitoria is one of the leading candidates.

According to FARPost, Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria has emerged as one of Kaizer Chiefs’ hottest targets for next season. Amakhosi are set to appoint a new tactician to replace Molefi Ntseki and his interim successor, Cavin Johnson. Victoria is currently a free agent after leaving the Egypt national team after Afcon 2023 where the Pharaohs lost on penalties to DR Congo in the final 16.

Why is Vitoria a big target for Kaizer Chiefs?

Not only has the 54-year-old tasted the pressure of a massive club like Benfica, but Vitoria also won the Portuguese league on two occasions, as well as the Saudi Pro League with Al-Nassr.
