Kaizer Chiefs’ striker: Who will step up as the main scorer?

Kaizer Chiefs’ striker dilemma continues as the main scorer still not solved.

Chiefs are facing a crucial decision regarding their main striker going forward. The technical team is reportedly concerned about Ranga Chivaviro’s form, and internal discussions indicate the possibility of other forwards being given an opportunity to lead the attack. Despite a strong start to the season under coach Nasreddine Nabi, Chivaviro has failed to live up to the high expectations set for him. Sources close to the team suggest that if Chivaviro’s performances don’t improve, he could lose his starting role to Ashley Du Preez.

“Ashley Du Preez could be given a chance ahead of Chivaviro if the latter’s form does not improve,” revealed a source familiar with the team’s situation. Although Chivaviro was initially favoured, his inconsistency in match situations has caused concern within the coaching staff. “They feel they have given him enough chances to prove himself, but in most games, he hasn’t lived up to expectations,” the source explained. “That’s why now they have advised him to pull his socks up or lose his starting berth.”

Chivaviro’s training form vs. game performance

Despite Chivaviro’s solid performances in training, his inability to replicate that form during matches is becoming a growing concern. “At training, he does very well, and that’s why they start with him, but things are not the same during games, and it’s costing the team,” a source explained. This inconsistency has led to discussions about giving Du Preez a shot to start alongside Wandile Duba and assess whether a change in approach can improve results.

Despite the pressure surrounding his on-field performances, Chivaviro’s contract renewal remains on track. A separate source revealed, “This situation won’t affect talks about his contract. The club is still looking at renewing it.” The source emphasised that Chivaviro’s challenge is to prove his worth, regardless of whether he starts or comes off the bench. “He just has to prove to them that he deserves it when given the chance to play,” the source said.

Goal-scoring woes: Chiefs focus on improving attack

The coaching staff believes that improving goal-scoring is key to Kaizer Chiefs’ success. “They believe that if they can score goals, they will have at least solved one problem,” explained the second source. “For now, they feel that’s where they are lacking to win more games.” With Chivaviro under pressure to deliver, the club is carefully monitoring his ability to rise to the challenge.

As the season progresses, Chivaviro’s position in the starting XI remains uncertain. Although he has shown improvements compared to last season. Missed opportunities in matches have left fans and coaching staff questioning his consistency. It’s clear that Chivaviro must step up his game to retain his place. Or risk losing out to other strikers, like Du Preez, who could be given a chance to lead the line for Kaizer Chiefs.
