Kaizer Chiefs news: Mayele, Mahlangu, Tau, R22 million man

Today’s Kaizer Chiefs rumours and gossip revolve around Fiston Mayele, Sphiwe Mahlangu and former player Jimmy Tau.

Kaizer Chiefs Chiefs in for R22.5 million man

The Amakhois board believe Pyramids FC forward Fiston Mayele is the man to fill this void, but it will cost them dearly – according to transfermarkt, Kaizer Chiefs will need to fork out around R22.5 million for the 30-year-old.

It’s presumably Mayele’s goalscoring record that is tempting the Glamour Boys most, boasting five goals in nine games this season, adding to his 26 goals in 52 games tally for the Egyptian giants.

Tau launches scathing criticism

Despite head coach Nasreddine Nabi attributing the team’s woes to scoring inefficiencies, former Chiefs and Orlando Pirates star Jimmy Tau sees a much deeper problem. Speaking on SuperSport TV’s ExtraTime, Tau delivered a scathing assessment of Chiefs’ defensive structure and discipline.

“I think it [the problem at Chiefs] is more than scoring, it is defending, it is structure. It’s a discipline,” Tau stated. His critique stems from a glaring defensive lapse that led to Polokwane City’s second goal.

Injury update

Amakhosi are still missing half a dozen injured players.

“Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi will be without six influential players for their upcoming Betway Premiership clash against TS Galaxy on Monday. The injured players include midfielders Edson Castillo, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Gaston Sirino, defenders Dillan Solomons and Bradley Cross, as well as goalkeeper Brandon Petersen.

“The players sustained their injuries in various matches but are expected to return to action soon. Despite these injury setbacks, Amakhosi is focused on preparing for the encounter and is confident in delivering a strong performance.

“Coach Nabi’s charges will be seeking to bounce back from their disappointing loss to Polokwane City last weekend. TS Galaxy were victorious in their last league match.”
