Kaizer Chiefs need a goalkeeping change says legend

Kaizer Chiefs need a goalkeeping change, says the Amakhosi legend.

As the season resumes this weekend, Kaizer Chiefs aim for consistency in their performance, especially with crucial cup action on the horizon. The team will face SuperSport United at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening in the Carling Knockout, and coach Nasreddine Nabi continues to search for his ideal player combinations.

Chiefs came off a morale-boosting win in the CUFA Cup, where they triumphed over Marumo Gallants in a thrilling penalty shootout, clinching the trophy after a goalless draw in regulation time. Goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma emerged as the hero, making two crucial saves to secure the victory for Chiefs.

Concerns over scoring and goalkeeping

Despite the victory, Nabi expressed concerns about the team’s inability to convert scoring opportunities and questioned their winning mentality. Former Chiefs star Junior Khanye suggests that the team should also consider making changes in the goalkeeping department. Fiacre Ntwari has started all three of Chiefs’ Betway Premiership matches this season, conceding four goals—one in each match against Gallants, AmaZulu, and two against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Khanye advocates for goalkeeper change

“In the goalkeeping department, Chiefs should try someone else. Yes, the coach can start with his team that has been playing and make substitutions as he has been doing, but in the goalkeeping department he must try to change,” Khanye stated in an interview with Soccer Laduma.

He acknowledged the team’s solid start, with two wins and only one loss against Sundowns, despite a controversial refereeing decision in that match. “But I would like to see a change in goalkeeping,” he added.

Ntwari on international duty

With Ntwari away on national team duty during the FIFA international week, Brandon Peterson sat on the substitutes’ bench against Gallants. Ntwari recently played for Rwanda in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, where they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Benin in Abidjan. He will return to Chiefs eager to maintain his position as the team’s number one goalkeeper.

Kaizer Chiefs are preparing for their upcoming clash with SuperSport United, both coaching staff and players must focus on consistency and improvement in key areas, particularly in goalkeeping, to ensure success in the Carling Knockout
