Kaizer Chiefs linked with two Bafana starlets!
Kaizer Chiefs’ interest in Asenele Velebayi and Oswin Appollis has been no secret.
If it were up to AmaKhosi, they would have had them in Soweto before the season began, but Cape Town City and Polokwane FC rejected their respective offers.
It was a busy offseason for Kaizer Chiefs, bringing in seven signings like Inacio Miguel and Bradley Cross, and January’s transfer window is looking no different.
Linked with an array of superstars, from Michael Olunga to Percy Tau, they seem ready to do more business following Nasreddine Nabi’s public outcry for additional attackers.
Going for youth?
Kaizer Chiefs pride themselves on their youth system with Wandile Duba and Mduduzi Shabalala waving the academy flag proudly.
Velebayi, 20, and Appollis, 23, are also piquing the interest of Chiefs management, who had both agreed to join during the offseason but, having their clubs deem Kaizer Chiefs bid too low, were blocked from doing so.
It seems the Soweto Giants are ready to try their luck again as they prepare bids for the upcoming window – there is a strong likelihood of at least one of them joining in January.
Velebayi winter talks
“There was a lot of back and forth,” Velebayi’s agent, Lance Davids explained.
“Kaizer Chiefs put in an offer, and the value was too low for Cape Town Spurs,
“Chiefs came back with a second offer and gave, in my opinion, a valuation that was very fair with add-ons, and they also didn’t accept that. They thought the valuation was low, and then they stopped just there.
“In my opinion, I thought the valuation that Cape Town Spurs was looking at for Velebayi, compared to Oswin Appollis, it’s a no-brainer – you can’t compare [the two players’ value]. At this point, what did Oswin achieved in the last year?
“So I think the valuation of Velebayi was crazy; I think Chiefs, to be honest, was very fair on their proposal and, in my opinion, they could have still add some more add-ons.
“Of course, they did not because they thought they were also fair on their proposal, and the deal fell through… I’ll be honest, at first Cape Town Spurs wanted R12 million, they came down to R10 million, and Chiefs’ offer was R5 million plus players.”
