Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye doesn’t think Victor Letsoalo is the type of striker Amakhosi need right now!
Letsoalo is heavily linked with a possible move to the Glamour Boys although his current employers Royal AM are confident of keeping him.
Now, Khanye believes Chiefs will be making a mistake if they sign Letsoalo despite him being one of the top strikers in the league this season.
In an interview with iDiski TV, Khanye revealed how he would opt for Stellenbosch FC striker Ashley du Preez instead of Letsoalo if he was recruiting players at Chiefs.
LETSOALO NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR CHIEFS – KHANYE
“Victor Letsoalo is a good player for Royal AM. He’s similar to [Tshegofatso] Mabasa; he was a superstar for Celtic, a player that helped them but look at him now at Pirates. Is he showing up?” asked Khanye.
“It’s not only him but I’m just making an example.
“Not everybody will play for Kaizer Chiefs. You cannot just play for Chiefs because you are scoring goals at Royal AM,” he said.
“Who are you playing against? Who are you competing with? How is the pressure there? So, I always make this statement to all the wrong signings they (Chiefs) make.
“I don’t understand why Kaizer Chiefs want to sign this guy (Letsoalo). I’d personally go for Du Preez. I’m talking about the Stellenbosch striker.
“That boy, 21-years-old… in terms of coaching, he needs to work on minor things. You need a person who’s dynamic (at Chiefs).
“Letsoalo, I think he’s 29 or 30? (actually 28). He’s not far from Kermit Erasmus in terms of age. I’d sign Erasmus instead of Letsoalo.”
LETSOALO TOO HEAVY TO SUCCEED AT KAIZER CHIEFS – KHANYE
According to Khanye, Letsoalo is similar to the three strikers Chiefs heavily rely on this season in Leonardo Castro, Samir Nurkovic and Bernard Parker.
In his opinion, Khanye feels Chiefs need a player of Du Preez calibre who is good off the ball to complement Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat upfront.
“So, for me, Du Preez was supposed to be brought in by Chiefs. We are talking about dynamism. You need to ask yourself if Letsoalo is good technically… does he know one, two?” asked Khanye.
“I know he’s good when it comes to striking the ball because I have seen him. Combination play, I’m not too sure about that. Secondly, can he move off the ball? You need someone who’s dynamic there because there is Khama and there is Keagan.
“If you check, there is Castro, Samir Nurkovic, and Parker. Those are similar types of players to Letsoalo. He’s heavy for me. He doesn’t have the speed but he knows how to strike the ball. There are players who are good for the teams they are playing for now.”
