Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter has fired a warning at rival teams ahead of his side’s Nedbank Cup opener against TS Galaxy.
The Glamour Boys face the same team (TS Galaxy) that broke their hearts back in 2019 on Saturday evening at the FNB stadium.
Kaizer Chiefs mentor Stuart Baxter however has signaled his intentions from the onset of the 2022 Nedbank Cup.
While the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United may be favourites to lift the Nedbank Cup, Baxter has warned against counting the Amakhosi out of the race.
Kaizer Chiefs aim for Nedbank Cup glory
“I think we have got to look at the Nedbank Cup as being a target. We’ve got to look at the Nedbank Cup as we’re in it and we have a chance in it.” – Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter said ahead of this weekend’s clash.
We need to start winning trophies again – Stuart Baxter
“Silverware is the standard that we live by as coaches. We can play good football and we can have big reputations but that doesn’t count for very much if you lose.” the Kaizer Chiefs coach added.
“Of course, in order to enhance your reputation, you need to win things and that’s what everyone is re-wiring at Chiefs. How do we entertain our supporters? How do we produce football that they want to identify with? How do we win games?
“The Nedbank Cup is the ultimate. You win, or you’re out. Maybe it’s a step toward that re-wiring of the mentality of the club and Kaizer Chiefs players.”
The Glamour Boys are in action on Saturday evening for the first time in 2022. Action at the FNB stadium is scheduled to get underway at 18:00.
Saturday’s Nedbank Cup round of 32 clash between Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy will be televised live on SuperSport PSL while this website will be providing you with live coverage 30 minutes ahead of kickoff.
