Kaizer Chiefs have been crying out for a commanding central midfield presence since Njabulo Blom left for the USA. Have they found him?
Kaizer Chiefs working on a deal for Mthethwa
Although there will be competition from Orlando Pirates, Chiefs feel confident they can strike a deal with Stellebosch to sign Sibongiseni Mthethwa. Stellies CEO Rob Benadie is reluctant to sell but at the right price, reports indicate that the Cape Winelands club won’t be able to refuse.

Although Njabulo Blom isn’t strictly a holding midfielder, his best work is done in the defensive third of the pitch. That is also true of Sibongiseni Mthethwa, who excels at breaking up play and then starting his team’s own attacks. Overall Blom is perhaps a better footballer in all phases, but Mthethwa is exactly what Chiefs need to liberate the other midfielders higher up the pitch. His arrival could work wonders for Edson Castillo especially. Mthethwa’s profile is different to that of Blom, but he’d be fulfilling a role that has been vacated and never properly filled.
