Kaizer Chiefs are now a SMALL team! – Bafana legend

South African coaching legend Clive Barker believes Kaizer Chiefs have lost their giant status in the country.

The legendary 1996 AFCON winning coach has revealed just how intimidating the Amakhosi teams of the past were while admitting that the fear factor is completely gone with the current crop of players.

Kaizer Chiefs have now gone over six years without lifting silverware while the club find themselves struggling to show any signs of improvement at the moment.

It’s sad to see what’s happened at Kaizer Chiefs – Barker

“They used to be one of the main contenders for the league and cups. I remember the days when we used to walk down a stadium’s corridors, and by just looking at them, you knew something was going to happen that day, now things have changed.” Clive Barker told Kick-off regarding Kaizer Chiefs.

“If you were playing in a cup match, you always wanted to play Chiefs because they gave you a good atmosphere, but the control and the domination in the Chiefs players is no longer there.

“So that has changed. In the past, you were one-nil down to Chiefs before it even started. That has turned around over the years. Which is a sad thing because this is not a good Kaizer Chiefs side. They no longer dominate as they used to.”

The Amakhosi currently sit in 13th position on the DStv Premiership. Stuart Baxter’s side have picked up just four points in their opening four matches this season while also getting dumped out of the MTN8 at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns albeit via a penalty shootout.

Kaizer Chiefs next turn their attention to Marumo Gallants who they face on Sunday evening in a DStv Premiership clash. Kick-off is scheduled for 17:00.
