Kabale University Student Commits Suicide

The Police in Rukiga District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 22-year-old Kabale University student who allegedly committed suicide.

The deceased is one Bibiana Nasasira, who was pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Social at the university.

She is said to have taken her own life by hanging.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman says the incident happened on Wednesday morning.

“It’s reported that the deceased was found hanging in a tree in Rweza Cell behind the sister’s house,” Maate said.

The sister, identified as Adera Amanya told police that the deceased arrived at her home on Monday 27th June 2022 with intentions of residing with her since she wanted to start her internship at nearby Rukiga District Local Government Headquarters.

Namanya says that on Tuesday evening, she realised that she was being restless and upon asking her what the problem was, she couldn’t say anything till Wednesday morning when the neighbour while going to the hospital, saw the deceased hanging on a tree behind the sister’s house.

The father of the deceased Sigirenda Kalist of Rutoma cell, Rwamucucu Sub County told police that he had lost so many relatives thru suicide and termed it as a family curse.

Maate said that the scene was visited and documented by the Homicide Detectives team led by Turyamutangurira Nelson and body handed over to the family members for burial.
