Kabale: Police Fails to Hit Recruit Target

Kabale district police has failed to hit its target of recruiting 1276 people to be trained as Special Police Constables ahead of the 2021 general elections.

Last month, Uganda police announced commencement of the process to recruit 50,000 SPCs meant primarily to guard the polling centres in the entire country.

Only 500 people showed up for recruitment

The Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate told our reporter that Kabale district was aiming to recruit 1276 able bodied people to be trained as SPCs, but only 500 who applied turned up for recruitment at Kabale Primary School playground in Kabale municipality on Monday

Maate said all the 500 who showed up were taken through physical exercise, medical check-up and oral interviews and all of them were recruited based on age ranging from 18 to 40 years and academic qualifications of between primary seven to tertiary.

Upon completion of a two weeks’ training he said, the recruits will be contracted to work with the Uganda police for a period of three months and each SPC is entitled to a monthly payment of 375,000 shillings.
