Kabaka Mutebi Calls for Probe into Riot Deaths
The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi has called upon government to institute a special commission to carry out investigations into the death of more than 40 people from the recent countrywide demonstrations
A week back in various parts of the country, people participated in demonstrations demanding for release of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential flag bearer Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu who had been arrested for breaking covid19 standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Speaking at this year’s Kabaka Birthday Run in Lubiri Mengo on Sunday, the king decried the violence in which many innocent Ugandans lost their lives.
“Those who remember the history of this country when it was being led by the Military Government, in 1945 there was a demonstration were eight people lost their lives. A Commission of inquiry was put in place to investigate and establish the cause of their death,” he said.
Mutebi also extended his sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives during the incidents of 18th and 19th November 2020
On the other hand, the Kabaka appreciated the Uganda AIDs Commission for an accolade which they presented to him in appreciation of his roles towards eradication of HIV AIDS and promised to continue with the same sensitization.
At the event, the Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga asked people to always put in consideration Kabaka’s advice and guidance especially on health matters
Unlike previous the previous years, this year’s Marathon was held with few participants at the Lubiri grounds because of Covid19.
