Jonathan Mensah misses out on 2020 MLS defender of the year crowned
Jonathan MensahColumbus Crew captain Jonathan Mensah has missed out on 2020 Major League Soccer (MLS) defender of the year award for 2020 award.MLS announced the winner on Wednesday, with the Ghanaian defender emerging third as Nashville SC centre back Walker Zimmerman won the award.
Zimmerman added 28.37% of the votes, beating Mark McKenzie (Philadelphia Union) who finished second with 23.04% of the votes and Jonathan Mensah (Columbus) who was third with 16.07%.
Mensah was confident of winning the award for the first time after leading Columbus Crew to the MLS playoffs.The 30-year-old has featured in all Crew games in the regular season. He made his 100th appearance in early this month.Mensah has set sights on winning the MLS trophy as they get ready for the playoffs which gets underway on Friday, November 20.
