Johannesburg motorists enjoy pothole patrol app and Whatsapp bot
Jozi drivers are moving smoothly. The pothole patrol app and Whatsapp bot that were launched in May 2021 have eased the daily nightmare that was Joburg roads. The City of Johannesburg confirmed the success of the launch on Wednesday 13 October.
JOHANNESBURG: POTHOLE PATROL APP AND WHATSAPP BOT
As excitedly announced by the municipality, the city and two leading insurance companies officially delivered a better driving experience after the technology was introduced back in May.
“As motorists drive to and from work this week, they might notice a change on the roads: fewer potholes thanks to a newly launched app between the City of Johannesburg and two insurance companies,” the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) said.
“The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Mpho Moerane, signed an agreement between the City, Dialdirect and Discovery insurance companies, resulting in the launch of a new Pothole Patrol app and Whatsapp bot to fast-track the ongoing war on potholes across the municipality.
50 000 POTHOLES REPAIRED
CoJ was proud to add that the partnership has so far helped to restore a massive 50 000 potholes in five months, thanks to the inspirational collaboration with the two giant insurers.
“The Pothole Patrol collaboration is exactly the kind of partnership that Johannesburg needs more of in other municipal areas of service delivery such as waste management, power supply, as well as infrastructure investment and development, among others.
“This way, we can easily build a better Johannesburg together,” said Mayor Mpho Moerane.
Motorists are encouraged to download the Pothole patrol app and WhatsApp bot on Apple App Store or Google Play. Motorists can also WhatsApp the word ‘Hi’ to 084 768 4653 (084 POT HOLE) and follow the prompts.
